A drift tube is designed and its electric field and the ion trajectories are simulated, by using the software SIMION. Simulations were based on elastic collisions between ions and gas particles in the IMS drift tube. Typical IMS parameters, include pressure, temperature, and flow rate of the drift gas were taken into account. The simulation could generate ion trajectories, predict ions’ drift time. The result was used to optimize the design of drift tube, such as electricfield, diameter of Faraday plate.
