摘要

The Sound Transit Northgate Link Contract N125 Project includes 5.6 km of twin subwayrntunnels in the northern end of the City of Seattle, WA, USA. This project includesrnthe excavations for two underground stations, as well as the excavation and final concreternlining for the twin tunnels, 23 cross passages, and a portal. Jay Dee Contractors,rnInc., Frank Coluccio Construction Company, and Michels Corp. formed an LLC (JCM)rnfor the construction of this project. The tunnels are expected to be driven with 2 refurbishedrnTBMs, one of which was previously used by JCM on an earlier Sound TransitrnProject, while the other was previously used on a project in Singapore. A third TBM isrnbeing refurbished as a standby machine to be used if problems are encountered onrneither of the initial two TBMs. This paper summarizes the preparation work that hasrnbeen done prior to starting the major tunneling work on the project, including the refurbishmentrnof the initial two TBMs.
