The results of the BOKZ-M star coordinator development, ground and flight testing on the Russian s/c are given. At present star trackers of the BOKZ family are operating onboard five s/c. Multi-year BOKZ operation in space has shown the possibility of this instrument usage for direct controlling s/c angular motion parameters. The conducted experiments were crowned with success both in Russia and abroad. From this moment on star trackers were divided by their purpose - astrocorrectors, instruments intended for direct control and dual-purpose instruments. Development of instruments intended for direct control has a trend of integrating angular velocity sensors for improving orientation measurement reliability. So, the integrated instrument becomes suitable for s/c angular motion control at all flight stages. In the near future it seems expedient to integrate high-precision star trackers, angular velocity sensors, GPS receivers, and a time storage system in one instrument. This would result in hard- and software configuration optimization and, reduction of cable network without astrocorrector function eliminating.
