Many papers have been published on the combined action of allelochemicals (Blum et al., 1985; 1989). On the other hand, research on the density-dependent phytotoxicity effects shows that increase in the biomass of the test plants strongly influences the activity of allelochemicals (Einhellig et al., 1982; Grakhov et al., 1993; Thijs et al, 1994; Weidenhamer, 1996). The major problem in allelopathy research is that the activity of compounds in laboratory test differs from activity in nature (Grakhov, 1999; Golovko, 1999). Thus, use of model system allows investigation of the influence of several factors on the activity of allelochemicals and gives more reliable data. Objects of researches were 7 species of genus Allium introduced from Central Asia to Ukraine and available in a collection of the National Botanical Garden, and also representatives of species Rhododendron luteum Sweet, growing in a natural geographic range of Polesye of Ukraine, and available in a collection of the botanical garden.
