摘要

Successful attempts have been made in the past for developing decision support systems in diabetes management by insulin administration (Ambrosiadou et al. 1996a) and (Ambrosiadou et al. 1996b). These attempts have typically involved implementations based on expert systems or neural networks. In these systems, the entire knowledge is contained in one location and the decision given is based on this isolated knowledge base. However, patient management and medical decision making involves collaboration between a number of health professionals such as nurses, laboratory analysts, general practitioners, specialist consultants and the patients. This is particularly true for chronic diseases where the follow up takes place over a long period of time involving a number of people. In such situations, the information pertaining to the patient is decentralised, distributed in multiple locations and is not easily accessible to all parties involved in the treatment. In this paper we present our ongoing research effort in the application of multi-agents systems to support diabetic patient care management through effective collaboration between health professionals.
