The paper analyses the coupled instability of laced columns. Special attention is paid to the effect of local imperfections of the members on the overall buckling load, considering the different nature of geometrical and mechanical imperfections. Simple relationships are suggested for practical design. However, the author has come to the conclusion that the EC3 approach (which neglects this effect) is acceptable in the range of slenderness ratios which are usual for civil engineering structures.
