The paper describes the existing tools available to the designer for the prediction of a design’s response in a seaway andrnthe work done to develop a design tool to predict the performance of a high speed planing craft operating in head seasrnwith varying deadrise and beam. The paper integrates the work done by Zarnick, Martin and Fridsma using the workrndone by Zarnick as a baseline for the development of a computer program. The new program improves the Runge-Kuttarnintegration of the differential equation to a more stable fourth order scheme with a smaller time step. The program alsornimproves the hull definition as well as the calculation of the sectional added mass and hydrostatic components of thernforces. The program predicts the heave, pitch and acceleration at the center of gravity and bow in a random fullyrndeveloped seaway in the time domain providing direct comparison to full scale data and model test data. The results ofrnthe program are compared to full scale data on two different craft over a range of different operating speeds and searnstates. The results are also compared to one tank test model to provide a middle range in craft size and speed.
