摘要

This paper focuses on the unique challenges to implementing a gas collection and destruction system that is fully functional and effective while integrating with the construction and operation of a large retail complex. Design and construction methods used to overcome the several physical constraints of installing an active LFG management system on a retail site with large buildings on support piles, paved areas, numerous buried utilities, and a capping system are described. Experience with the ongoing operation and maintenance of the LFG management facilities is presented.This project demonstrated that it is technically feasible and economically viable to reuse old landfill space in a beneficial manner with the proper planning, design and operation of environmental protection systems including landfill gas controls.
