The use of organic foams in automotive car manufacturing is described; the paper is focused on car body applications, specifically. Despite the fact that such foams have been in line use for several years now, they are still fairly new to the industry. Structural and acoustic foams are mostly applied in the automotive body shop and are cured and expand in the first paint oven. Structural materials are based on epoxy chemistry, which give high reinforcing strength even at elevated temperatures as well as excellent aging and durability properties. Acoustic foams are based on EVA or elastomer chemistry which are cured by organic peroxides. Besides their acoustic function, materials work as sealers in the hollow body network of the car.
