The present paper highlights results from the priority program "Cellular Metals" of the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG SPP 1075). The availability of detachable fasteners for aluminum foams enables the production of complex components made of simple modules which can be produced in a job loss process. Furthermore additional reattachments can be fixed in foamed structures. The skin of foamed parts is thin and has poor mechanical properties for fixing fasteners by gluing, so that large areas are necessary to achieve high tensile and sheer strength. Aim of this work is the fixation of fasteners using foamable precursor material basing on magnesium. The fastening elements, M4 tapped bush, are inserted in a ring of foamable magnesium precursor material and placed in a drilled hole of the aluminum foam. By foaming the magnesium precursor material using an infrared heating system a mechanical clamping as well as metallurgical joining zone is obtained between the aluminum fastening element and the aluminum foam. Mechanical tests have been carried out. The tensile strength of the detachable fasteners is higher than 2kN.
