The present paper highlights results from the priority program "Cellular Metals" of the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG SPP 1075). The mechanical properties of aluminum foam vary substantially. This is caused by the large inhomogeneity of the structure of metallic foams. In this report, results from tension and compression tests as a function of the density and the homogeneity of the structure are shown. As a measure of homogeneity, the deviation of the local density from the average density is used. The local density is determined with 3D micro tomography. In addition, the properties under tension and compression loading are compared.
