摘要

The present paper introduces a novel biorefinery platform for producing papermaking pulp and a range of chemicals and biofuels from nonwood materials, such as cereal straws. The core of the biorefinery is a novel pulping process based on formic acid. The present paper illustrates selected experimental results from such a process and discusses the opportunities for biorefining. The paper also discusses the advantages of such a process in comparison to suggested biorefinery concepts. Especially the possibility to refine the dissolved solids without affecting the chemical recovery is a major advantage of the process. The process enables highly profitable and environmentally sustainable biorefining of agricultural residues and other nonwood materials.
