Screens are used to remove debris particles, which are larger in at least one dimension than papermaking fibers.rnCritical components of a screen include the restrictive screen plate, a means of backflushing the screen plate as itrnmats over, and separate discharge paths for the accepted stock and rejected debris. The primary mechanisms forrndebris removal are positive size separation, and contaminant alignment.rnIn addition to debris removal considerations, pressure screens located at the paper machine headbox, and theirrnassociated piping, must be internally polished to avoid the formation of strings in the headbox circuit. Pressurernpulsations, which can cause barring on the paper machine, can be generated, amplified, or attenuated by the paperrnmachine screen.
