摘要

It has been argued that "active-active failover is the cornerstone of high availability." in considering system availability, however, it is instructive to look beyond the RAID controller configuration to comprehend the total disk storage system. With this perspective, we see that most active-active RAID systems installed at custoemr sites contain multiple single points of failure. As a result, these systems are readily susceptible to common failures that cause loss of the availability of data in the system. Such catastrophic failures have caused extreme surprise and consternation to users, who had believed that active-active systems unconditionally protected their data. In addition, the performance improvements provided by most active-active systems have fallen short of user expectations.
