The membrane bending elastic modulus was measured for the vesicle phase of different catanionic surfactant mixtures by an analysis of the vesicle size distribution determined by cryo-TEM. The measured distribution was fit to the vesicle distribution function derived from the thermodynamic theory of aggregation to determine spontaneous curvature and bending elastic modulus. It is shown that the size distribution of the vesicles is strongly dependent on the chemical structure of surfactants. The vesicles in cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB) / sodium perfluorooctanoate (FC7) are smaller, and the size distribution is significantly narrower than that of the CTAB / perflurohexanoic (FC_5) dispersion.
