The predictive ability of models of nitrous oxide emissions from agricultural soils is not yet satisfactory (Mosier 1993; Granli & B0ckman 1994). The aim of this study was to relate measured N_2O emission rates to soil and climate parameters of two typical agricultural soils in the region of 'Middle Alsace' and to develop simple models to simulate temporal variability of N_2O emissions.
