This paper presents the results from detailed measurements and observations of the effects of dryrnrecirculation upon the characteristic parameters and structure of a pulverized oxycoal swirled flame. Thernpulverized fuel swirl burner (100 kWth) used for this study was previously designed, developed andrnconstructed at the Institute of Heat and Mass Transfer at the RWTH Aachen University. In the presentrnstudy, measurements on the swirl burner were performed in a vertical pilot scale furnace. Operating limitrnconditions for O2/RFG and flame equivalence ratios were meticulously evaluated and fixed for thernformation of stabilized flames under different thermal loads. Combustion chamber wall temperature atrndifferent axial burner positions and the concentration of major species in flue gas have been measured forrnthe set of different studied burner operating conditions. Spontaneous emission of OH radicals was studiedrnand relative concentration profiles were obtained as complementary data describing the pulverized flamernstructure.rnThe observed flame characteristics and the flame behavior under different tested operatingrnconditions as well as the influence of recirculated flue gas are presented and discussed.
