The aim of this presentation is to give a rating agency perspective on Panama and to discuss credit ratings in general, and Fitch IBCA's rating process in particular. Panama presents an interesting case study. Fitch IBCA takes a positive view of Panama, having signalled that we were thinking of upgrading the country to investment grade in February 2000. One of the reasons for that decision is Panama's very successful debt management strategy.
