摘要

This paper aims at sharing UAVS-relevant experience and knowledge which Barco has acquired during more than ten (10) years of developing and fielding rugged flat panel displays in the worldwide defense market. The paper is structured to provide the readers a relevant technical basis enhanced with field based experience to enable a display selection truly in line with their UA V system requirements. The widespread availability of commercial flat panel displays offers both opportunities and pitfalls for defense applications. The pitfalls are not always easy to uncover, not in the least because commercial display marketing neither has much interest in nor experience with the needs of our defense applications. More importantly, since a number of shortcomings only appear in the real life applications and environments, avoiding them can only partly be done by demanding Mil-Std or Def-Std qualifications. The paper concludes by providing an insight in how future LCD technologies will provide further benefits in our defense market applications like UAVS Ground Stations.
