After review of the results above, it is clear that the primary objective of the test has been achieved. At an average temperature of 35K, the damping of the BSTA assembly was measured as low as 0.017% critical for the bare structure, and with an attached harness as low as 0.033% critical.The basic modal behavior of the structure, through its first 4 fundamental modes, has also been characterized. Data taken in the cryogenic range can be used to tune finite element models and therefore reduce model uncertainty, perhaps provide additional insight into material characterization efforts, and lower overall uncertainty and risk as the JWST program moves forward.
