摘要

Perhaps two of the more crucial issues facing those involved with Portland cement manufacturing are energy consumption and climate change (more frequently referred to as "global warming"). These issues are very much interrelated. U.S. manufacturers, woefully behind most of their European and Asian brethren with respect to applications of process and product technology, ironically may have near term "opportunities" (potentially mandated by international protocols) to make the more significant reductions in specific energy consumption and specific environmental emissions. For the long term, however, the greatest need worldwide will be for breakthrough process and product technol ogies that will reduce these specific factors by an order of magnitude.
