The contents of microbial biomass in treatments with sewage sludge were found higher by 25 % to 39 % compared to control. In treatments with applications of mineral nitrogen fertilizers microbial biomass N was lower on average by 21 % to 39 % compared to the control. Extractable organic nitrogen content was also highest in sewage sludge treatment by 23 % to 28 % compared to the control and lower in treatments with mineral N fertilizers by 20 % to 47 % compared to the control. There was a positive correlation (r = 0 42-0.83) between microbial biomass nitrogen and extractable organic nitrogen.
