The aerospace industry has been the major consumer of imported titanium and the backbone of Research and Development (R&D) in France. World market globalisation has boosted creativity and has opened new horizons for innovative titanium applications. Development of titanium matrix composites, titanium aluminides, novel fabrication routes, optimisation methods for process - product performance optimisation have been the focus of recent R&D activities. This paper outlines recent achievements made with titanium in France, especially in collaboration with European partners.
