IT is now transforming the nature of products, processes, companies, industries and even competition itself. The importance of virtual communities is increasingly realized by more and more business companies. In order to win through the throat-cutting competition in the China mobile telecommunication marketplace, China Unicom needs to make the best use of its on-line capability as well as off-line capability. Based on the analysis of the existing structure of the China Unicom virtual community, a five-step approach is given to conduct a strategic restructuring.
