This study directed attention on the affairs and demands of non-traditional college students during their first year of college. This research study focused on three issues: (1) the needs of non-traditional male and female students during their first year and their perceptions of how well these needs were met; (2) advisors' perceptions of the needs of non-traditional students' needs and how well they were meeting these needs; and (3) congruence between students and advisors awareness regarding students' needs.; The design of this study was a quantitative descriptive survey research design in which quantitative data collection methods were used. Data collected from these sources allowed in the measurement of quality and quantity of the academic advising sessions and their success for first year non-traditional college students. Data acquired from the student and advisor questionnaire were used to learn if the awareness of student needs among advisors and the stated needs of students were the same and if there were any differences between male and female participants.; This research was intended to provide a guide in the growth, development, and implementation of an academic advising program based on the needs of non-traditional students in order to promote their academic success at the college.
