摘要

Airborne and ground magnetic surveys are the primary exploration tool in the search for kimberlites. Analysis and interpretation of magnetic data provide information on the signatures of potential kimberlite pipes.; In this study, we present a 2-D and a 3-D magnetic interpretation technique based on a multistage strategy able to overcome the difficulty associated with inversion when unknown remanent magnetization is present. (1) A first approximate 2-D/3-D interpretation is obtained from the magnetic anomaly. (2) This estimate is then iteratively improved by adjusting the direction of the magnetization to maximize the symmetry of the reduced to the pole anomaly. (3) The third stage is the estimation of the depth, radius and center of the source by using an empirical method for shallow sources or by using the ratio of the maxima of analytic signals of different orders for deeper sources. (4) The final stage is composed of two damped least-squares inversions of the magnetic anomaly. (Abstract shortened by UMI.)
