The purpose of this dissertation is to present a number of academic perspectives for analysis and understanding in the attempt to progress educational situations. Specifically, the study takes a look at student and learning community transition into the high school environment and, ultimately, by doing so help meet graduation goals. Its intent is to assist educational leaders and learning communities in creating new and purposeful environments that help student's transition successfully into high school. The study researched student awareness and consciousness in learning environment and what it can do for them, as it is vital to groom students to extend themselves successfully into their current learning community and future communities beyond. Additionally, the dissertation analyzes and evaluates the research study issue from obtainable data in reports, articles, books, and/or studies as well as includes from analysis the motivations for the applicable research, literature, theoretical foundations, methods, and interpretations. Moreover, relating both of these components to the relevant study in the area of emphasis that of Educational Leadership and answering the research question. The aim is to help solve issues and add to educational literature with the dissertation focus of interest, student transition into high school. That interest being, launching a successful academic high school experience and future: ninth-grade climate reform, a change in student awareness, consciousness, and achievement by way of value in education. Finally, this research includes study and analysis of a variety of related and influential reports, associated studies, and literature on the issue of high school dropout and graduation rate. It includes support materials that sustain the purpose behind the dissertation's initial concern to reform efforts to aid in the prevention of high school dropout and improve graduation rates. As this is a qualitative and quantitative research study, the survey's open-ended discussion question areas (qualitative) are shored up with measured multiple-choice survey questions (quantitative) in order to reveal research study results. These two methodologies blend together to provide in-depth comprehensive results in the closing stages of the research study. As a result, this dissertation's research study uses a mixed methods methodology.
