摘要

An anonymous, self-administered, mail-out survey of Canadian orthodontists was conducted to evaluate computer and Internet use as well as the use of other computer related equipment. The survey collected information in three sections: demographic information, office computer use, and perceptions and attitudes regarding digital and electronic technology.; The response rate was 45.58% (304/667).; Orthodontists' computer use is very high (97.4%) and almost three quarters of orthodontists have Internet access at work. While computers are used for a variety of tasks, administrative tasks are the most common use for computers in orthodontists' offices.; While Internet access in general is quite high among orthodontists, younger orthodontists appear to have Internet access more often than their older colleagues. In addition to this, offices with more staff and which started more cases had Internet access more often than their counterparts.; Orthodontists generally felt that digital and electronic technology was useful for and capable of improving the way they practiced orthodontics. The majority of orthodontists were willing to use the technology in a variety of applications. The major obstacles to the general use of the technology are related to cost, security or privacy, and time.
