摘要

Inclusion of perennial, warm-season legumes high in condensed tannins (CT) in goat diets that suppress Haemonchus contortus (HC) may have additional effects on animal performance. Two pelleted legume diets containing CT, introduced Lespedeza cuneata (sericea lespedeza; SL) and North American native Desmodium paniculatum (panicled tick-clover; PTC), were fed to growing nanny kids and compared to a non-CT-containing legume, Medicago sativa (alfalfa) for effects on average daily gain (ADG), feed efficiency (F:G), blood urea-nitrogen (BUN), and ruminal ammonia-nitrogen (ruminal NH3-N). CT in SL decreased F:G and ADG while CT in PTC had no impact. If PTC is used to suppress HC in goats, this trial indicates that no negative dietary effects will result.
