摘要

This exploratory case study explored the experiences and perceptions of expatriate citizens of the Niger Delta regarding the continued violence and hardship in the region. The research consisted of interviews with expatriate citizens of the Niger Delta who are living in southwest Houston area. Despite the huge oil revenue generated from the Niger Delta, the region is consumed in continuous violence and massive underdevelopment marred by lack of economic and social infrastructures and extreme widespread poverty. Detailed analysis of the research findings, conclusions, and implications of the research are discussed. This research was necessary because the knowledge gained from the study might help better understand why violence and poverty continued in the mist of oil revenue. An analysis of the data from the interview may help identify areas that might benefit people in the leadership position in Nigeria and the Niger Delta.
