This paper describes a research project to evaluate Air Traffic Controller confidence in Air Traffic Control (ATC) automation systems using digitized Airport Surveillance Radar (ASR) information from remote locations. This project evaluated Air Traffic Control operations using the current analog ATC display system collocated at the airfield with remote digital automation system located at another facility. Current ATC terminal operations place the Air Traffic Control personnel in proximity to the airfield for which the service is required. The remote system permits the Air Traffic Control personnel to be located worldwide and provide the same level of service. This project focused on the fidelity of aircraft control and the controller confidence in automated ATC data.
