摘要

The entrance of women into predominantly male professions has always been a struggle. This paper is a summary composite of the extensive literature on the changing nature of modern law enforcement with special emphasis on the particular history of the Kansas City, Missouri, Police Department (KCPD).;Through an extensive review of available literature, the creation of original oral interviews, and a survey of popular imagery, this treatise examines the effect of social conditions, trends, and expectations in the eras of pre- and post-EEOC. The KCPD provides a uniquely telling case study of this history.;The material reviewed, the consensus of the authors cited, and the statistical data provided support the premise that although women currently have a presence in every facet of law enforcement, the evolution continues.
