An experiment was conducted in a commercial field of yellow passion fruit (Passiflora edulis var. flavicarpa Degener) in Santa Isabel, Puerto Rico, to determine the effects of three pruning methods on the performance and yield of the vines. The pruning methods were severe, moderate, light and an unpruned control. These pruning methods resulted in an approximate biomass removal of 95, 70, 40 and 0%, respectively. The experimental design was a completely randomized block with four replications and the experimental unit was five plants. No significant differences were observed among the pruning treatments for number of new shoots produced. Only the severe pruning resulted in a significant reduction in average fruit weight, while the other pruning treatments no significant differences were found. No significant differences in yield were found between the no pruning and light pruning treatments, obtaining from these two the highest yield, following by moderate and severe pruning. It is concluded that light pruning is the most satisfactory pruning method for commercial passion fruit culture.
