An examination of human factors in aircraft maintenance and its role in aircraft accidents is increasingly important to employee and public safety. To explore the human factor issue in the aircraft industry, this project examines training, communication, safety, and human physiology, and recommends changes that will be effective in controlling aircraft maintenance technician errors. About one in five accidents originates in the Maintenance Department. Maintenance errors are part of the chain of events leading to the accident. If that chain of events at the maintenance level is reduced, fewer aircraft accidents will happen. One recommendation to correct aircraft technicians' errors is to implement a program developed by Boeing. This program, known as MEDA, is a major step toward using these principles and technologies within airline maintenance organizations. Airlines now using MEDA have already made improvements to their maintenance systems that enhance economics and operation efficiency, as well safety.
