The mechanism of the reaction of limestone slurry with sulfur dioxide (SO;A slurry of 4-;A complete model of the heat and mass transfer and the evolution of particle structure during the simultaneous reactions of calcination, sulfation and sintering has been developed. The particle structure is represented by interconnected grains which expand into the pore volume in sulfation. After the local porosity reaches an assigned residual porosity, the particle volume expands on sulfation. CaO reacts with SO;The model is solved numerically by dividing a particle into uniform shells and calculating the change in temperature, gas concentration, reaction conversion and particle structure in small time steps.;The experiments show that the addition of water vapour to the flue gas significantly increases the sulfation conversion (
