摘要

The C. Roger Myers' Oral History Collection is comprised of 108 interviews with Canadian psychologists conducted between 1962 and 1977. The subject of this thesis is to examine the utility and significance of the Oral History Collection both to its creator, C. R. Myers, and to contemporary historians of psychology. This will involve two separate analyses: First, I examine his work in psychology, especially that part of this life from 1956 to 1970 when he turned to an interest in professional eminence and to the building of Canadian psychology at the University of Toronto. Next, I explore the Oral History Collection and its usefulness to contemporary historians of psychology. Myers did fulfill his goal to collect the impressions of the people who were active in the early days of Canadian psychology. For Myers, the history of psychology in Canada was the history of academic psychology and the "Great Men" who shaped it. Myers has left historians, psychologists and students with a set of illuminating accounts of the lives of psychologists of a particular era.
