摘要

This exploratory study investigates the experience of wives of self-employed men, who own and operate a family business. The primary focus of the study is the manner in which entrepreneurial wives negotiate the adult developmental tasks of marriage, family, and careers, with secondary consideration given to the interactive relationship between the wife and the family business.; Using qualitative methods to examine aspects of adult development, this study describes the experiences of 16 women, who are married to family business owners and are between 35 and 66 years of age. The subjects' involvement in family business varies, ranging from no involvement to full partnership involvement in the family business.; The findings of the experiences of the 16 subjects identifies this group of women as traditionally experiencing the issues of marriage, family and career within the context of their times. The secondary consideration indicates an interactive relationship between this group and the family business. The family business did influence decisions and experiences pertaining to marriage, the formation of a family, family life in general and career patterns.
