A community of their own: Redefining social capital for millennials.

摘要

This collaborative ethnography considers the various avenues that millennials employ to achieve a sense of social bonding and build social capital in corporate and social settings. Using collaborative ethnography, I co-interpreted the culture of social media use by millennials, examining the ways in which millennials communicate with each other socially, how they view their relationships with each other, and how they work to build social capital using digital technology. Using an independent blog, I raised issues for mutual discussion and interpretation, both from the standpoint of the millennial generation and from mine, that of a baby boomer. I determined that social capital is plentiful, although differently acquired in the technologically driven millennial world, and encouraging its acquisition is an effective means of both engaging millennial workers, and strengthening their bonds to the organization.
