This study examined how South Island case managers could create a healthy workplace during organizational change within Vancouver Island Health Authority (VIHA). Health authorities in BC are taking the issue of healthy workplaces seriously because unhealthy work environments are affecting the retention and recruitment of health professionals. The literature review supports the view that a healthy workplace is crucial to organizational success. A qualitative research approach was used in conducting three focus groups within VIHA with frontline case managers and the leadership team. The findings revealed that organizational change has significantly impacted the health of the workplace and the participants have identified these issues as detrimental to organizational success. The study findings were the basis for recommendations brought forward to support the need for change and to move ahead with creating a healthier place to work in order to provide quality care to Vancouver Island communities.
