Crime analysis has been an important and continues topic for recent studies, which could provide the information for police department and government to predict and prevent criminal activities. Previous studies mainly focused on the spatial patterns of crimes and socioeconomic factors related to crimes. However, rare researchers applied remote sensing technology to analyze crime activities at census tract level.;The goal of this research is to measure the association between crime and the nighttime light and analyze the crime based on socioeconomic factors at census tract level in the United States. In addition, based on the relationship between nighttime light and crime, we compared the contributions of main crime types in different cities. The results showed that there is a strong relationship between nighttime light and crime, socioeconomic factors and crime. In addition, property crime contributes more in total crime. Motor vehicle theft and larceny make more contributions in property crime and robbery makes more contributions in violent crime.
