At optimum conditions 35℃,the mole ratio 1.5∶1∶2.5 of o-ethoxyphenol,glyoxylic acid and sodium hydroxide,the yield of 3-ethoxy-4-hydroxyamldalinic acid was up to 88.6%.The electrolysis was carried out in an undivided cell with the anode graphite and the cathode nickel.The appropriate conditions were as follow;reaction temperature 60℃,current density 0.15 A/dm2,concentration of caustic alkali 6%.The yield of ethylvanillin was 90.0%.
