动物园是城市绿地系统的一个组成部分，主要饲养并展出野生动物，进行动物知识普及，宣传保护野生动物的重要意义，同时进行科研工作。现代许多动物园正朝着模拟野生动物生活环境的大型综合化发展，以吸引国内外游客。中小型城市动物园面临着与大型城市动物园所不同的发展困境。以扬州市为例，通过对园区规划建设和市场宣传两方面的深入研究，提出中小型动物园应注重特色构建、多元发展的建设模式和以市场为导向的推介宣传。%The zoo is a constituent part of Urban Greenland System, and its primate responsibilities are to raise and exhibit wild animals, to popularize the knowledge about animals, to promote the significance of protecting wild animals, and meanwhile to conduct scientific research works. In modern times, to attract tourists from home and abroad, many zoos are developing in the direction of large-scale and integration to simulate the living environment of wild animals. Urban smal and medium sized zoos are faced with the development difficulties, which are different from those of the zoos in big cities. Take Yangzhou as an example, the construction mode of emphasizing characteristic construction and pluralistic development, as well as the popularization and promotion of market-orientation toward smal and medium sized zoos are raised through deep researches on the planning and construction of parks, as wel as on marketing promotion.
