It is always controversy how to restore original y coloured façade. During the restoration and upgrading process of Zhongshan Road, which is one of best persevered historic streets in Haikou, Hainan Province, PR China, efforts were taken to restore original coloured lime plaster façade and solid wooden window frames. Samples of historic materials were taken and their composition and original colours were studied in the laboratory and some of them implemented practical y. The upgrading remains and propaganda signs from 1950-1960’s were also preserved. Al the efforts were to implement the conservation theory into practice and to reach a balance between conservation of patina and restoration and renewal.%历史建筑立面色彩再现一直存在争议。在2010~2012年海口骑楼历史街区最具代表性的中山路骑楼建筑立面修缮设计与施工过程中，尝试在保留历史沧桑与风采展示之间、历史保护理论与实践之间找到平衡。通过对历史材料进行分析与色彩沿袭鉴定，采用“恢复”“保存”及“出新”3种手段，真实恢复了有历史依据的部分彩色灰塑，保留了代表中山路历史印记的20世纪50~60年代遗存，对窗户采用了保护与展示相结合的色彩再造。
