Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) is one of the common functional gastrointestinal disorders. Abdominal pain or abdominal discomfort is the major symptom and has a great impact on the quality of life of the patients. Recent studies have shown that visceral hypersensitivity and motor abnormalities in gastrointestinal tract are the main mechanisms of IBS.
