上海"中华国际工程协会"成立于1901年初,历经上海工程师和建筑师协会(1901-1912)、上海工程协会(1912-1913)、中华国际工程协会(1913-1941)三个阶段,结束于1941年底,历时四十余年.作为中国近代最早的由外国人成立的建筑师、工程师团体,"中华国际工程协会"以普遍推动工程(建筑)及其所有分支的科学和实践为宗旨,为实现这一目标而进行的主要活动有"集会以促交流、出版以输学术、参观以广见闻、藏书以备参考,专研以解疑难、联合以谋发展、奖励以劝研学".该协会为将国外先进工程技术引入中国做出了一定贡献,促进了中国工程技术的近代化历程.%As the first society of engineers and architects in China sponsored by foreigners, the Engineering Society of China was founded in 1901 as Shanghai Society of Engineers and Architects, and renamed as Engineering Society of Shanghai in 1912, and then changed to Engineering Society of China in 1913. It was ended at the end of 1941, which lasted more than forty years. The society was established for the general advancement of science and practice of Engineering and Architecture in all their branches. All activities were organized and carried out in order to the goals which were "holding meetings to promote communication", "publishing papers to disseminate scholarship", "visiting sites to broaden horizon", "collecting books for reference", "carrying out monographic studies to solve problems", "uniting other societies for common development", and "establishing scholarships to encourage students". By introducing advanced engineering technology to China, it contributed a lot to the modernization of engineering technology in China.
