认知型情态在商务信函中的人际意义研究

         

摘要

情态是功能语言学范畴内人际意义研究的重点,认知型情态作为情态系统的重要组成部分承载了丰富的人际意义。论文以 Martin(1992)归纳的认知型情态分类为依据,结合Halliday(1994)对情态的高低赋值和主客观向度的研究,分析了其在商务信函中的实现手段,并提出了认知型情态在其中体现的人际意义:使命题更客观、符合礼貌原则、承担或避免责任和建立上下级关系。%Modality is a key aspect for the study of interpersonal meaning in the field of functional grammar. As an im-portant part of modality system, epistemic modality bears rich interpersonal meaning. Based on the framework proposed by Martin (1992) on classification of epistemic modality and combined with the research of Halliday’s modal value and modal orientation, this paper analyzes the realization means of epistemic modality in business letters and discusses its interpersonal meaning:objectifying the proposition, conforming to the politeness principle, undertaking or avoiding the responsibility, and establishing the superior-subordinate relationship.
