Zeng developed his conception of national sovereignty through studying and diplomatic practice. His conception mainly involves amending and abrogating treaties,restricting and abolishing the imperialist powers’privileges in China,defending the nation’s rights, emphasizing the rights of nationals abroad,insisting upon the principle of national equality in diplomatic practices,and intensifying China’s relation with the west. Due to the limitation of the era and the social class of which he is a member,there were some deficiencies in his conception in epistemological dimension and practices. However,it enriched the theory of Chinese diplomacy and had a far - reaching impact on modern Chinese diplomacy.
