During his being the magistrate of Suichang County, Zhejiang Province, Tang Xianzu ( 1550 -1616) has created a lot of poems and essays on various topics, especially on his series measures beneficial to the common people under his administration. Such measures as running schools, encouraging farming, punishing vil-lains, relief to the poor and setting the prisoners temporarily free for observing the Lantern Festival, etc, have brought him a success in a limited area, and the years during his being the magistrate at Suichang is a period that his own political ideals have come to realization to a certain degree.
