The use of taboo words is a social linguistic phenomenon commonly existing in different cultures in the world. This paper compares the differences and similarities of the taboos between English and Chinese , in pronunciation, vocabulary, religion, privacy and so on, which can be of great help for successful intercultural communication.%禁忌语是一种世界性的社会语言现象，其产生和使用受不同民族的文化、社会习俗和宗教信仰等方面的制约并渗透在跨文化交际中的各个方面。通过英汉禁忌语在语音、词汇等方面相同之处和名字、数字、宗教信仰等方面的不同之处对比分析，旨在了解掌握英汉禁忌语知识的基础上，避免因不同的禁忌引起的文化冲突，有助于促进跨文化交际的成功。
