The relationship between freedom and authority has always been at the core of the study of political philosophy. There is natural tension between the two, which results in paradoxes to be encountered by every constitutional state in the modern era. The frequent political changes that have occurred in Thailand in recent years can best testify to such paradoxes. In order to solve the problem, a distinction must be made regarding the relationship among freedom, democracy and authority. Then their tensile relationship either logically or practically must be studied in a systematic fashion. It is concluded that striking a balance between freedom and authority is the key to resolving the paradoxes of constitutional governments. Such a conclusion is of great inspiration and reference to China＇s efforts aimed at constructing a socialist democracy with Chinese characteristics.%自由与权威的关系是政治哲学研究的一个核心内容,两者在价值上存在着天然的张力,这种张力所造成的悖论是任何一个现代宪法国家必须面对的问题,泰国近年来频繁的政局变动就是例证。对于这一问题的研究必须从厘清自由、民主与权威三者之间的关系出发,系统探讨三者在逻辑上和实践中的张力关系,得出自由与权威的调和是解决宪法政府悖论的关键,这一结论对我国建设社会主义民主具有重要启示意义。
